Physician, Inpatient Cardiology

 

Provides cardiovascular healthcare to individuals. Assesses and manages the healthcare needs and problems within their specialty area, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention as well as the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness. Functions as part of the provider team to provide care to the department’s panel of patients.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited APRN program.
  • NCCPA certification or board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Responsibilities

  1. Assesses physical and psychosocial health status of patient and family by taking health histories and conducting comprehensive physical examinations.
  2. Orders appropriate diagnostic/screening tests to evaluate patient’s current health status.
  3. Formulates diagnosis and implement treatment plan to manage acute illness and stable chronic illness consulting with and making a referral to physician colleagues and other health care providers as indicated.
  4. Consults and collaborates with a department physician or appropriate specialist to plan and manage the care for patients with unstable or complex acute or chronic illness. Facilitates transfer of patient to the primary care physician when the complexity of care exceeds scope of practice.
  5. Evaluates patient’s progress during follow up visits and implement revised plan of care.
  6. Prescribes and/or dispenses medication.
  7. Provides patient education with emphasis on the promotion of health and wellness and the prevention of illness and disability.
  8. Provides guidance and counseling for both individuals and families.
  9. Demonstrates patient advocacy that insures the patient’s right to privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent.
  10. Serves as a mentor for new APNs, nursing students, and department nursing staff.
  11. Assumes responsibility to renew APRN license in a timely manner and maintain DEA registration.
  12. Attends continuing education programs to ensure ongoing professional growth and development to meet licensure requirements.
  13. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Eligible for APRN licensure in the State of Vermont.
  • Eligible for Federal DEA Registration.
